The Revival of Ancient Heritage in a Modern Package

Nyssos Extra Virgin Olive Oil comes from the centuries-old olive groves of Corfu, carrying with it a history that spans generations. The challenge was to create packaging that would not simply be a container, but a physical embodiment of this heritage. In a market filled with premium glass bottles, how could we communicate timelessness and authentic tradition in a way that feels both luxurious and deeply meaningful?

Our central idea was a return to essence. Instead of designing yet another bottle, we set out to create an object that feels as though it has been unearthed from the Corfiot soil itself. Our inspiration came from archaic clay vessels — the very first containers that safeguarded the “liquid gold.” The strategy was to design packaging that doesn’t just tell the story, είναι but is the story — a tangible piece of heritage the consumer can hold.

The result is a bridge between ancient craftsmanship and contemporary design, where every detail serves the narrative.

We created a custom ceramic bottle, its organic form inspired by the shape of the olive leaf. Its matte, earthy texture offers a unique tactile experience, instantly evoking traditional pottery and the purity of handmade craft.

The artistic illustration of a centuries-old olive tree, its roots embracing the name “Nyssos,” is more than decoration. It symbolises strength, endurance and the deep connection of the product to its land.

The outer packaging is a minimalist wooden case that protects the ceramic vessel. Its open-front design creates a sense of anticipation, turning the unboxing into a ritual — the unveiling of a precious object.

Through the Nyssos design, ABC Design Communication expresses the essence of timelessness, uniting cultural heritage with contemporary branding and the refined aesthetics of Greek olive oil.
